For many seniors and individuals with mobility challenges, everyday tasks like getting in and out of bed or stepping into a vehicle can become difficult and even hazardous. Recognizing this issue, Ocean Beach Hospital & Medical Clinics, in partnership with the Ocean Park Fire Department, is hosting an educational event to provide valuable resources and strategies for staying mobile, safe, and independent.
Move Around Safe & Sound will take place on Friday, February 21, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Ocean Park Fire Department’s Community Room (26110 Ridge Ave, Ocean Park). This workshop is specifically designed for those who experience limited mobility, struggle with movement in daily activities, or feel unstable when walking or transferring between different positions.
The Importance of Fall Prevention for Seniors
Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths among older adults in the U.S. and a major cause of hospitalization. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four seniors falls each year, and these incidents often lead to serious injuries such as hip fractures, traumatic brain injuries, and long-term disability. Even non-fatal falls can result in a loss of confidence, reducing a person’s willingness to stay active—leading to further physical decline. However, many falls can be prevented with the right education, home modifications, and mobility support. This workshop aims to equip attendees with the tools to stay safe.
