The North Coast Express: New Shuttle Service from Portland

The North Coast Express, a new seasonal shuttle service, is now connecting Portland to Oregon’s scenic North Coast every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through August 31, 2025.  Launched on this weekend, May 23, this pilot program offers a car-free, comfortable, and eco-friendly way to explore coastal destinations like Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Rockaway Beach, and the Tillamook Creamery.

Operating Days: Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays

Dates: May 23 – August 31, 2025

Departure Point: Sunset Transit Center, Portland

Operator: EcoShuttle, funded by the Oregon Coast Visitors Association and Travel Oregon 

Route Details

Each morning, two express routes depart from the Sunset Transit Center:

Northbound Express: Cannon Beach → Seaside → Astoria

Southbound Express: Rockaway Beach → Tillamook Creamery

A midday connector service allows for hop-on, hop-off travel between coastal towns.  Both express routes return to Beaverton in the evening, providing ample time to enjoy local attractions, food, and the coastline  .

Onboard Amenities

The North Coast Express buses are equipped with:

Free WiFi and charging ports

Onboard restrooms

Panoramic windows and reclining seats

Wheelchair lifts for accessible boarding

Limited storage for bikes, surfboards, coolers, and other large items

Seaside: Seaside Promenade, Seaside Aquarium, Sandy Beaches, Annual Kite Festival, Tillamook Head Trail, Family Fun Centers

Cannon Beach: Haystack Rock, Tidepools, Beaches, Art Galleries & Boutiques, Gourmet Dining, Ecola State Park

Rockaway Beach: Twin Rocks, Scenic Beaches, Cedar Wetlands Preserve, Kelly’s Brighton Marina, Local Shopping

Tillamook: Cape Meares Lighthouse, Air Museum, Cape Lookout State Park, Munson Creek Falls, Tillamook Creamery

Passengers can choose between the North or South routes, with tickets valid only for the selected bus.  However, riders can utilize the midday connector service on either express route.  Tickets can be canceled up to one day in advance for a full refund  .
