Celebrating the Life of Gayle Louise Campbell: A Legacy of Love and Service

Gayle Louise Campbell, a dedicated nurse, volunteer, and beloved family member, passed away peacefully in Beaverton Oregon on July 12, 2024.  Born in Multnomah County, Portland, Oregon, on March 16, 1937, to Gertrude Lindgren Christianson and Harold Morris Christianson, Gayle was raised in a close-knit Scandinavian community.

From an early age, she embraced a life of service and hard work, attending a one-room schoolhouse and actively participating in her local church. After graduating from Eugene High School in 1954, Gayle pursued her passion for nursing, enrolling in the Nursing Program at Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing and graduating in 1958.

Gayle’s career in nursing was marked by her unwavering commitment and expertise. She held numerous positions, including Staff Nurse at various hospitals and a long tenure at Los Alamos Medical Center. She also served as an instructor at the University of New Mexico and Northern New Mexico Community College. Gayle retired in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication in the nursing profession.

In addition to her professional achieviements, Gayle was deeply involved in volunteer work. She held various positions with the Los Alamos American Red Cross and the Los Alamos Council on Cancer. Her contributions extended to Albuquerque, where she volunteered at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing and served on the Senior Advisory Committee for the City of Beaverton. She volunteered as an Oregon ombudsman for nursing homes near Beaverton, advocating for the elderly. Her dedication to saving lives and improving care for the most vulnerable is commendable.

Gayle married her soulmate, George Melvin Campbell, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, Shaun Morris Campbell  and Kathryn Ann Campbell Chevalier. Gayle was also the proud grandmother of Quinn Thomas Campbell and Devin Matthew Chevalier. She is also survived by her brother Paul Christiansen and sister Patricia Lesh. Her sister Beverly Hayes passed years ago.

Her life was filled with joy and adventure, from family camping trips, walking beaches on the Oregon coast to cross-country skiing in the beautiful Los Alamos mountains. Gayle’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Gayle’s life will be held on in the near future.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimers or a charity of your choice.
