The Port of Ilwaco will welcome one of the Long Beach Peninsula’s most entertaining automotive traditions when the 24th Annual Ilwaco Slow Drag returns Friday, September 11, 2026.

Unlike a traditional drag race, the goal of a slow drag is patience and control—not speed. Drivers compete to see who can travel the course as slowly as possible without stopping, providing plenty of suspense and good-natured fun for spectators.

Participating vehicles will begin lining up along the waterfront at 2 p.m. Practice runs are scheduled from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by the official competition at 5 p.m.

The event is free to watch, and spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs. With distinctive vehicles, waterfront scenery and an unusual competition that rewards going slow, the Ilwaco Slow Drag offers an enjoyable afternoon for car enthusiasts and families alike.
